Become invisible
How many companies or recruiters scan the web for information that concerns us? An annoying photo lying around, for example, a carried comment… Not to mention the cyber-harassment that will take advantage of everything that is lying on us, embarrassing or not ... Another example: you look for your own name and you come across a of your old CVs still accessible on a platform. You would like to see it disappear. You have the right to delete this listing.

The definition and explanation of rights are the sole responsibility of the author and cannot replace the texts of European regulations.
The right to de-listing
SEO consists of storing information about your person and providing access to it through research (newspaper articles, having an account in a social network, etc.). This is what you can observe on web search engines when you type your name, for example.
The right to dereference consists in asking search engines (web or not) to delete results concerning your person (name and first name).
A clearly limited right
Please note, removing referencing means removing the link between your first and last names and the search results. This does not imply the erasure of data from the search engine's computer systems. Worse than that:
you can get the results you want to disappear by going directly to the website in question
the results remain accessible from the search engine without your first and last name
your request only concerns the results that go up when you enter your name + first name
The icing on the cake: if the information you wish to have erased is considered to be of public interest by the website, you will receive a refusal from the publisher or the host.
In other words, if it is a photo of you that you intended to make disappear, there is a very good chance that you will not succeed ... The legislation must clearly advance on this right, as it is so close to the masquerade , even if the line between freedom of information and respect for private life is, it is true, sometimes blurred. The major social networks are the first to take refuge behind this argument, sometimes wrongly, sometimes rightly.
Avoid the limits of this right
If at the end of the exercise of your right to de-listing, you have not won your case, despite your reminders, here are the steps you can follow. Each time, be sure to keep a written record of all your exchanges.
1- Be informed of what is done with your data and your rights
Start by knowing what data is held by the site concerned, what is done with it, where it is stored and how long it is kept, what is or is not your personal data according to the site's policy and finally, the rights that you can exercise.

2- Access your data
Then ask to recover your data. Do not limit yourself to personal data, ask for a copy of all the data that concerns you directly or indirectly (for example: a photo published with your name in the metadata). Review this data, get help if necessary, and keep it safe with your previous interactions with the website.

3- oppose the use of some of your data
Now that you know what your rights are with the site and the data it holds about you, exercise your right of opposition in order to assert your refusal to see some of your data used by the site.

4- As a last resort, exercise your right to be forgotten
If you no longer wish to benefit from the services of the website, request the total erasure of your data. You will have previously requested to obtain a copy of this data. Here again, keep your exchanges with the site well. Check if your right has been applied.

5- If you have tried everything, turn to a lawyer specializing in the field
Remember to keep a written record of all your interactions with the website concerned. And be patient and tenacious, because lawsuits can be lengthy.
